Notice of Meeting/Workshop Hearing

Department: Department of Transportation
Division: Departmental
Subject: The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, is hosting a public hearing for proposed improvements to County Road (CR) 769 (Kings Highway) from South Kingsway Circle in Charlotte County to Peace River Street in Desoto County. The proposed improvement involves widening the two-lane undivided roadway to a four-lane divided roadway to improve safety and handle future expected traffic. The widening will require right-of-way acquisition for road improvements and stormwater management areas. Encroachments on wetlands and floodplains have been identified and may be given special consideration under Executive Orders 11990 and 11988, Protection of Wetlands and Floodplain Management, respectively. Existing access to properties along CR 769 (Kings Highway) will change due to the addition of a median, a result of widening the road. The no-build alternative, where no improvements other than routine maintenance are made to CR 769 (Kings Highway) through 2040, will remain viable throughout the remainder of this study. An open house begins at 5 p.m. to view project materials, ask questions and provide comments to FDOT representatives. The formal public hearing will begin at 6 p.m. A hearing moderator will offer introductory remarks followed by a brief video presentation. An intermission will follow when people can register to make oral comments, which will be received following the intermission. FDOT will also accept written comments. Draft project documents are available for public review from Wednesday, October 16 through Monday, November 18, 2019 at the Florida Department of Transportation, Southwest Area Office at 10041 Daniels Parkway, Fort Myers, FL 33913, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at the DeSoto County Library, 125 N. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, FL 34266, Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. These documents are also available on the project website at www.cr769kingshighway.com and will be available at the public hearing.
